NORTH SMITHFIELD – Police responding to reports of a domestic assault in North Smithfield tracked down the perpetrator with help from a neighboring town’s K-9 unit, ultimately locating the suspect inside a chicken coop at his home.

Luis Flores Arias, 33, of North Smithfield, was arrested and charged with disorderly conduct, obstructing an officer, and two counts of domestic assault following the incident. Arias also had an outstanding Superior Court warrant, according to police.

According an arrest report from the incident, officers were called to the suspect’s home in the Park Square area of North Smithfield around midnight on Friday, Jan. 17 for a report of an assault in progress, and were told that Arias ran out of the house before their arrival.

Multiple victims and witnesses reportedly told police that an argument in the home had become physical, and Arias kicked and shoved several victims, pushing one woman down a flight of stairs.

Officers contacted Woonsocket police, who arrived at the North Smithfield home with K-9 Aspen.

“Aspen eventually alerted strongly towards the rear of the house where the chicken coop was,” notes a narrative by Officer Cliff Huynh. “I checked the area of the chicken coop and discovered the subject was hiding inside the chicken coop with the chickens.”

Arias was reportedly identified by his passport from El Salvador, and it was later discovered that he had been arrested multiple times under various social security numbers and dates of birth. Officers ran the aliases in their database to uncover a warrant in Superior Court.

  1. I believe this is the same violent animal that hit my son just hours before this, he pulled over and tried to break his windows to cause him harm and as my son videod him he then got back in his car and fled the scene before the police could get there. If police had got him sooner this other incident may not have happened. I’m sure he’s released by now and free to continue this violent behavior. Who’s to blame then?
