BURRILLVILLE – Hundreds of homes lost power and the sky was lit with a flickering blue light Tuesday evening after a tree limb damaged a transformer near the boat launch on Wilson’s Reservoir.

Crews from Pascoag Utility District were able to restore power to most homes in less than an hour following the incident around 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 3.

PUD officials noted that Rhode Island Energy was working on the feeder line serving the village of Pascoag and had to suspend service to the area during the emergency repair. PUD crews were able to act quickly to move customers over to one feeder line, restoring electricity to most of the village.

“Simultaneously, a transformer on East Wallum Lake Road was damaged by a fallen limb, causing a fire,” PUD noted. “We thank you for your patience while our team works to restore service to all customers.”

Crews were dispatched to the area for repairs along with emergency personnel, while the damaged transformer lit the sky with flickering bright blue light. Residents in other parts of town reported reduced power and flickering lights.

Power was ultimately restored to all homes Tuesday evening.
