Holiday trash

The Department of Public Works has announced that there will be no trash or recycling pickup on the Monday following Christmas, and pickup will be delayed by one day for the remainder of the week.

Pickup will also be delayed the week of Monday, Jan. 2 in celebration of New Year’s Day.

The Whipple Avenue Recycling and Compost facility will be open on Wednesday and Saturday from 9-1 on Christmas and New Year’s weeks.

Blood drive

The Burrillville Police Department will hold a blood drive on Wednesday, Dec. 21 from 1 to 7 p.m. in the community room of their headquarters at 1477 Victory Highway. Appointments to donate can be made at ribc.org/drives using sponsor code 5060, and walk ins will be accepted if availability permits at time of arrival. All donors will receive a pair of free socks while supplies last.

Parks & Rec calendar

The Burrillville Parks and Recreation Department has released their calendar of special events and activities for 2023, including dates for everything from e-Waste collection to the Green Festival. The complete calendar can be found here.

Winter break

Jesse Smith Memorial Library will host free drop in activities over winter break with no registration required. Events begin with a Christmas Pajama Party Storytime, to be held on Thursday, Dec. 22 starting at 6 p.m., best for children age 10 and under with an adult caregiver.

Town meetings

The Burrillville Screening Subcommittee will hold a meeting on Tuesday, Dec. 20 starting at 4 p.m. at the town building at 105 Harrisville Main St. The agenda is here.
