Awards ceremony

The Burrillville Police Department’s annual Awards Ceremony and Heroes in Our Community Celebration will take place on Wednesday, Dec. 7 starting at 6:30 p.m. at the Assembly Theatre at 26 East Ave. The community is invited to attend and asked to RSVP to (401) 568-9494 ext. 1.

A Christmas Carol

The Burrillville High School Theatre Club will present the Charles Dickens classic, A Christmas Carol in BHS Veterans auditorium at 425 East Ave. this week, with performances on Friday, Dec. 9 at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday, Dec. 11 at 2 p.m. Tickets cost $10 for adults and $7 for students and can be purchased at the door.

Santa parade & Toys for Tots collection

Berard Desjarlais American Legion Post 88 will hold its annual toy drive on Saturday, Dec. 10 at the Binns building at 111 Chapel St. The event will begin with Santa parade stepping off from the Harrisville Fire Department on Callahan School St. at 9 a.m. Those who brings a new unwrapped toy will get a free picture with Santa. The post will also accept donations of IGA receipts; coats; worn flags; canned goods; and new clothes and toiletries for the Knights of Columbus Drive for the RI Veterans Home. There will be new flags for sale and a Hess Truck raffle, and guests are invited to stay for refreshments and the Army/Navy football game at 3 p.m.

Christmas at the diner

Johnny’s Victory Diner at 2731 Victory Highway will offer a Polar Express special on Friday, Dec. 9 from 5 to 8 p.m., with all children to receive a Golden Ticket upon entry. The golden ticket is good for a free meal – with the child to choose between a pancake or grilled cheese – with a purchase of a parent meal. A Polar Express ticket/sticker and bell will also be given to each child.

On Saturday, Dec. 11, Santa and Mrs. Claus will visit the diner from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Guests are invited to visit and receive free cookies for kids.

Popup market

The Burrillville Farmer’s Market will hold a popup shop at Bravo Brewing Company at 75 Pascoag Main St. on Saturday, Dec. 10 from 1 to 4 p.m. The event will include live music, with items from local artisans, fresh produce, baked good and meats for sale.

New Providence Big Band

The Assembly Theatre will host Christmas Time with the New Providence Big Band on Sunday, Dec. 11 at 3 p.m. Tickets cost $15 and will be available at the door or in advance at assemblytheatre.org.

Town meetings

Pascoag Utility District will hold its annual meeting on Monday, Dec. 5 starting at 6 p.m. at 253 Pascoag Main St. Due to all candidates running unopposed this year, a procedural vote will be taken at 6 p.m. at the Annual Meeting for the Election of Officers. The agenda is here.

The Burrillville Planning Board will hold a meeting on Monday, Dec. 5 starting at 7 p.m. in the Jesse Smith Library Community Room. The agenda is here.
