BURRILLVILLE/ NORTH SMITHFIELD – Residents across northern Rhode Island celebrated Thanksgiving this week, with many showing their gratitude by the launching fundraisers and other drives to give back to the community.

The North Smithfield Police and Fire unions purchased pies for residents living in the town’s senior residency facilities and also made two Thanksgiving Dinner Baskets for families in need.
The Juneau family of Burrillville posted a Thanksgiving family photo from their latest location in Ashland, Va. The family left town in July in a mobile home to travel the country, inviting locals to follow their adventures through Journey with the Juneaus.
The Burrillville Police Department has started their annual Adopt-a-Family Christmas program. In 2022, the department will provide a complete Christmas to eight families with 29 children. Those who would like to help buy specific gifts, donate money or a gift card, or volunteer to help wrap presents are asked to contact Lisa Rabideau at lrabideau@burrillville.org, or at 401-568-9494 ext 1.

American Legion Berard-Desjarlais Post 88 members Linda Peck and Donna Hamelin with gifts collected last year through the organization’s annual toy drive. The Post’s 2022 toy drive will be held at 111 Chapel St. on Saturday, Dec. 10 with an event that will start at 9 a.m. with a Santa Parade leaving from the Harrisville Fire Department on Callahan School Street.

  1. Wonderful events…..however, the pics with the students eating on the floor with a mat rolled out AND THEIR SHOES AND HANDS ADJACENT TO FOOD PLATE, is not a good thing. Not sanitary, not wise. Esp after a pandemic.
