NORTH SMITHFIELD/BURRILLVILLE – Rep. Brian Newberry pointed this week to his efforts and advocacy on behalf of completion of the Route 146 road project in asking voters to return him to his seat representing District 48 in North Smithfield and Burrillville in the election on Tuesday, Nov. 8.

“In 2018, as Route 146 deteriorated from a road merely needing repairs into an outright dangerous stretch, I organized and led a bi-partisan coalition of northern Rhode Island legislators to spur RIDOT to action,” Newberry said. “This effort resulted in breaking the decades long logjam over what to do both about routine maintenance, but more importantly the dangerous traffic light at Sayles Hill Road.”

“With help with federal funding from our congressional delegation in 2020, 146 is now under complete overhaul and reconstruction for the first time since it was built,” he said.

“I am proud to have been a leader in solving this issue, and it is proof of my ability to work cooperatively with both federal and state officials and across party lines to make tangible changes to our district,” said Newberry.

“I hope to be given the chance to do more and respectfully ask for your vote.”

  1. Just the paving resurfacing alone make the road better. Hard to understand why the State couldn’t just do simple mill & fill pavement upkeep over the years or why it had to get to the point of deterioration it was at.

Overpass/Underpass aside at Sayles Hill, the road is already light years better with just some new pavement. 25-years overdue.
