NORTH SMITHFIELD – A data analytics and business intelligence professional who previously served on the North Smithfield Town Council is looking to return to the board, citing his data-driven and fiscally responsible approach to town government.

Former Councilman Douglas Osier said that while serving on the board, he, “kept taxes affordable, supported road repaving, funded education, preserved North Smithfield’s rural landscape and history, advocated for economic development, and acquired open space.”

Osier said he also helped promote open government by ensuring the live streaming of Town Council meetings.

In 2020, Osier opted to run for town administrator instead of seeking re-election to the council. He was later reappointed to the Budget Committee to serve as the chairperson. Osier also serves as treasurer of the North Smithfield Heritage Association and is a member of the asset management commission.

Osier said he continues to believe in a, “fiscally responsible, data driven, collaborative approach.” He stated that, “data allows us to evaluate projects and budgets while ensuring that we are getting the best return on investment when utilizing taxpayer dollars.”

He said he also feels, “it is important that we do not price out seniors, veterans, and young families.” With many large projects facing the town, Osier said he believes North Smihtfield needs a candidate “who will remain objective, not shy away from the tough conversations, and will solve problems by seeking out new and collaborative solutions.”

Osier holds degrees in finance and economics from Stonehill College and a Master’s in Business Administration in leadership from Franklin Pierce University. He resides in town with his wife, Ashley, along with their two young children, and three dogs.

Osier asked voters to choose his name on the ballot, either by mail, during early voting at Town Hall, or in person on election day, on Tuesday Nov. 8.

  1. Now this is the best comment made by any one of the candidates “fiscally responsible, data driven, collaborative approach.” “Data allows us to evaluate projects and budgets while ensuring that we are getting the best return on investment when utilizing taxpayer dollars.”

    • Amen to that, this young man may be just what North Smithfield needs right now! We need a change on the council and especially with its leadership or we will all be taxed right out of town.
