GLOCESTER – The owner of a dog that died due to neglect last month is facing animal cruelty charges, announced this week by the Rhode Island Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals.

Michael Pinto, 39, of Glocester was arrested on Friday, July 29, after police discovered a neglected Great Dane on his property. The dog, named Buddy, was severely emaciated and neglected, and later died, according to RISPCA.

Pinto was charged with one count of unnecessary cruelty, one count of overwork, mistreatment or failure to feed animals, and one count of care of dogs.

He was one of four arrests in three separate animal cruelty cases announced by the organization this week.

Pinto pleaded not guilty and was given a $3,000 bail with surety. He has a pre-trial conference scheduled for Wednesday, August 17.

The RISPCA shared graphic imagery of the dog, which can be found here.
