BURRILLVILLE – A 52-year-old Burrillville woman with a long criminal history that includes multiple charges for assault and domestic violence has again been arrested by Burrillville police following an incident involving her 78-year-old mother.

Brenda Westgate of Burrillville was charged with assault on a person over age 60 causing bodily injury, larceny, domestic disorderly conduct and violation of a no contact order after police were called to her mother’s home in July.

According to the arrest report, the victim told police that Westgate was visiting the home and began throwing items from the refrigerator following an argument. The woman said Westgate then began pushing her, causing a laceration on her arm, and struck her leg with a wooden baby gate, before stealing her cell phone and leaving the residence.

Police photographed markings on the victim’s arm and leg.

The charges are the latest for a woman with dozens of incidents in the state criminal database, including a 2020 arrest in Burrillville for threats and attacks against her parents.

Westgate’s first assault charge was in 1990, when Woonsocket police arrested her for larceny, entering a building with felonious intent, assault of a person over 60 and assault with intended robbery. In 1991, she was charged with escape from a correctional institution.

She was released on a $10,000 surety bond on the latest charges and is due back in court on Tuesday, August 23.
