Vehicle a ‘total loss’ following fire Sunday on Sunnycrest Avenue

NORTH SMITHFIELD – A car that caught fire early Sunday evening was completely destroyed by the blaze, but fortunately no one was injured in the incident, according to North Smithfield Fire & Rescue Chief David Chartier.

Firefighters were called to the neighborhood around 6 p.m. on Sunday, May 22 after the driver of the car called 911. The owner, a Burrillville resident who called in the incident, reportedly said that the vehicle, a large, SUV-style car, began smoking while she was driving after leaving Lindy’s Tavern. The vehicle caught fire after she pulled over in the neighborhood in front of 3 Sunnycrest Ave.

“When they arrived the vehicle was fully engulfed,” Chartier said of emergency personnel.

The blaze was extinguished in around 15 minutes, according to the chief, but the car was a “total loss.” The car was parked on the street in front of the house, so there was no additional property damage reported.
