Yard waste pickup ending

Curbside yard waste collection began on Monday, Oct. 18 in North Smithfield, and will end the week of December 13. Yard waste is collected on the same day as your trash and recycling. Residents can have reasonable amount of leaf bags or cans, clearly marked, of yard waste out at the curb for weekly collection.

Drop off hours at the Highway Garage at 281 Quaker Highway will continue Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. and Wednesdays from 3 to 5 p.m. only. Residents are welcome to bring yard waste or accepted recyclables. The town offers free drop off for rigid plastic and scrap metal items as well as used motor oil. Items can not be left outside the gate after business hours or officials will take notice.

Wish list drive

North Smithfield High School Senior Amelia Jackson is sponsoring a Wish List Drive as part of her senior project and is collecting gifts for kids who are spending their holidays in foster care. Anyone interested in sponsoring a teenager in foster care this Christmas, or even just purchasing one or two items from a wish list, is asked to email kennyscoalition@gmail.com for more details. Providence Bruins night

Join North Smithfield Fire for a group outing to First Responders Appreciation night at the Dunkin Donuts Center with the Providence Bruins on Friday, Dec. 10. at 7:05 p.m. The game will include presentations honoring local police, fire and EMS.

A team from North Smithfield Fire will take on a team of North Smithfield Police after the Bruins game. Tickets cost $16 per person and can be purchased here

Holiday events

  • Santa at the Barn

The Beef Barn and Pound Hill Creamery will host Christmas festivities on Sunday, Dec. 12 from noon to 4 p.m. Stop by the location at 200 Industrial Drive to enjoy hot chocolate and visit with Santa.

  • Pop Up Market

Phoenix Rising Equestrian Center will host a pop up market on Sunday, Dec. 12 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Purchase locally-made products, visits Santa and pony rides at the event at 260 Pound Hill Road.

Town meetings

The North Smithfield Town Council will hold a meeting on Monday, Dec. 6 in the council chambers at 83 Greene St. starting at 6:45 p.m. The agenda can be found here.

The North Smithfield Board of Assessment Review will hold a meeting in the 2nd Floor Conference Room at 83 Green St. on Thursday, Dec. 9 starting at 6 p.m. The agenda can be found here.
