Scouting for food, Broncos 5K: Five things to know in Burrillville this week

Scouting for food

Troop 1 Pascoag and Troop 102 are seeking donations of non-perishable items for the annual Scouting for Food, a drive to help Burrillville families in need. A collection event will be held on Saturday, Nov. 6 at 141 Howard Ave. in Pascoag from 9 to 11 a.m.

Items most needed include canned tuna, peanut butter, soups, cereal, canned vegetables, pasta and rice. Donations can also be dropped off at Serio’s at 405 Church St. or Pool Pirate at 2205 Broncos Highway.

Pumpkin festival

The Downtown Pascoag & Neighborhood Association’s annual Pumpkin Festival was cancelled last weekend and will now be held on Saturday, Nov. 6 from 5 to 8 p.m. by the Bridgeway. The event will include local vendors, food and entertainment, demos, a pumpkin carving contest and more.

Broncos 5K

The Burrillville Prevention Action Coalition’s annual Broncos 5K walk/run will take place on Sunday, Nov. 7 starting at Burrillville High School at 9 a.m. The event raises funds for scholarships for Burrillville High School seniors as well as drug and alcohol abuse prevention activities.

Salute to Veterans

The Italian American War Veterans of the U.S., Inc., and members of American Legion Berard-Desjarlais Post 88 will hold a comedy night to honor local veterans on Sunday, Nov. 7 at the Assembly Theatre from with doors to open at 4:30 p.m., and the show to start at 6 p.m. The event is free for all former services members and a guest, and is open to the general public for $10, plus a canned good to be donated to the Berean Baptist Church food pantry.

Town meetings

The Burrillville Prevention Action Coalition will hold a monthly meeting on Wednesday, Nov. 3 starting at 5 p.m. at the Safety Complex at 1477 Victory Highway. The agenda is here.

The Burrillville Town Council will hold a public hearing at 105 Harrisville Main St. on Thursday, Nov. 4 starting at 7 p.m. for discussion on American Rescue Plan Act funding. The agenda can be found here.

The Burrillville Sewer Commissoion will hold a meeting on Thursday, Nov 9 starting at 6:30 p.m. at 141 Clear River Drive. The agenda is here.

The Burrillville Planning Board will not be holding a meeting for the month of November.
