Victory Day

Monday, Aug. 9 is a holiday in Rhode Island and Burrillville Town Hall will be closed. It is also a trash holiday and there will be no trash or recycling pickup on Monday, with pickup delayed one day for the remainder of the week. Questions can be directed to the Department of Public Works, Refuse & Recycling at (401) 568-4440 ext. 12.

Swim session 4

The Burrillville Lions Club is hosting a final learn to swim session this week, with classes running for ages 3-12 August 9-13 from 11:45 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. Lessons are taught by a certified swim instructor at a cost of $25 per week for Burrillville residents with a Family Beach Pass at Spring Lake. To attend, visit the beach at 50 Old Hillside Drive to register.

Live music

On Friday, Aug. 13, Sarah Grand Evolution & Company will perform at Johnny’s Victory Diner from 6 to 9 p.m.

Friends of the Jesse Smith Memorial Library presents the latest free show with the Riverwalk Times Summer Concert series on Saturday, Aug. 15, The Aviators. The concert will be held at the Stillwater Mill Pavilion in front of the library, with a rain venue inside the library, starting at 6 p.m.

At the theater

The Assembly Theatre will host two events this week, starting on Saturday, Aug. 14 with a screening of The Sleepless Unrest, a new film about the Harrisville house that inspired the 2013 hit horror movie The Conjuring. The event will take place from 3 to 5:30 p.m. and will include a Q&A session with Kendall Whelpton, Vera Whelpton, Brian Murray, Richel Stratton, Cory Heinzen and Jennifer Heinzen. Return to the theater on Sunday, Aug. 15 for The Assembly of Food Trucks starting at 5 p.m. featuring PVD Food Truck and live music by Cat ‘n Jimmy. The event is free to attend, with food and libations available for purchase.
