Community yard sale

Burrillville Helping Burrillville has plans to host a community yard sale on Sunday, June 27 with proceeds going to the Burrillville Christmas fund, which provides a holiday for families in need, the general fund, and families with children that have medical conditions. The event will include a lemonade stand, fake tattoos and carnival-style games for kids.

The group is accepting donations to be dropped off the day of the event and seeking volunteers to help out.

More information about the event, including time and location, is expected to become available later this week, and will be published on NRI NOW. To learn more, contact Jasmine Malley.

Summer meals

The Burrillville School Department and the Burrillville Youth Nutrition Program have announced that free summer meals will be offered to children age 18 and under at three locations in town through the summer.

The Summer Meals Program will provide lunch each weekday and breakfast for the following day, offered from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. beginning Tuesday, July 6 at Jesse Smith Library at 100 Tinkham Lane; Veteran’s Memorial Park at 103 Pascoag Main St.; and Burrillville High School at 425 East Ave. Friday pickups may include some weekend meals, and kids only need to show up to take advantage of the program.

Johnny’s temporarily closed

Johnny’s Victory Diner has been temporarily closed due to a refrigeration issue. The restaurant is working on repairs and owners hope to announce reopening within the next few days.

Pickleball & Cornhole

The Burrillville Parks & Recreation Department is looking to start a Pickleball league at Oakland Park. Pickleball is a paddleball sport that combines elements of badminton, table tennis, and tennis. The department has also announced a cornhole league, with pickup games held every Wednesday through October starting at 6:30 p.m at the town pavilion in Harrisville. Anyone age 21 and older is welcome to join and can feel free to bring their own bags to play. For more information contact Joe Sencabaugh at (401) 524-3032.

Town meetings

The Burrillville Redevelopment Agency will hold a meeting on Tuesday, June 22 starting at 7 p.m. The public is invited to participate via Zoom with instructions and an agenda found here.

The Burrillville Town Council will hold a regular meeting on Wednesday, June 23 starting at 7 p.m. The agenda and link to attend can be found here.

The Oakland Mapleville Fire District will hold their monthly meeting on Wednesday, June 23 starting at 7 p.m. at 46 Oakland School St. The agenda can be found here.
