Former N.S. town solicitor dies at age 63

NORTH SMITHFIELD – A North Smithfield resident who once served as solicitor and assistant solicitor for the town died in February at the age of 63 following a battle with lymphoma and leukemia.

Richard Nadeau received his law degree from Georgetown University and practiced law in Rhode Island and Massachusetts for the past 38 years. He served as assistant solicitor in North Smithfield from 2004 to 2006, and solicitor for four years, from 2008 through 2012.

Most recently, Nadeau worked as a partner at the Providence-based firm Patridge Snow and Hahn, LLP.

According to his obituary, Nadeau was born in Providence and grew up in Northborough, Mass. He was married to, and is survived by, Merredythe Nadeau, who served on the North Smithfield School Committee from 2014 to 2018.

Nadeau died on Monday, Feb. 22.
