Parks and Recreation calendar

The Burrillville Parks and Recreation Department has released its annual calendar of special events and activities featuring dates for items such as Breakfast with the Easter Bunny and the Spring Lake Beach season opening.

The calendar, posted below, notes that all dates are subject to change due to COVID 19.

Free early childhood program

Tri-County Community Action Agency is recruiting children for a free toddler classroom in Pascoag. The 6 hour class runs for the full year and is geared for children age 18 months up to a child’s third birthday.

The organization is also recruiting for a virtual home based program for pregnant moms and children up to the age of 3. Tri-County services eight towns in northern Rhode Island and families must be under the income guidelines to be eligible.

They are also starting applications for the 2021 program year for children ages 3-5. Children will need to be at least 3 by Sept. 1 to eligible to apply.

Families can apply at tricountyri.org and or call (401) 519-1979 with any questions, text (401) 256-2257 or email at haudette@tricountyri.org.

Dino’s helps community with food, oil

Dino’s Park & Shop is currently taking part in a book drive for oil, and asking shoppers to donate any books in good condition. The books will be sold for $2 each, with all of the money to go to the community for oil. Dino’s will match the first $1,000.

The store is also running the “Best Wishes” program with bags of Best Yet food products, purchased for $5 each, to be donated a local food pantry.

PUD water refund

The Pascoag Utility District has received the final disbursements of more than $900,000 in grant money from a project first started in 2017. The USDA grant came through following completion of Phase 3 of the company’s water main cleaning and lining project, completed this past fall.

In addition to the grant money, PUD was also able to secure a USDA loan $1.2 million for the remaining cost of the project at a very low interest rate and 40 year term.

“With the lined water mains and all new valves and hydrants as part of the project, our customers can finally be proud of a much more modern water system,” noted the quasi-public utility company.

PUD notes that it will be returning more than $14,000 from the grant money to customers in a future bill.

“The refund is in recognition of the water lost to the cleaning/lining project from water main flushing and bleeding activities as the work was progressing.”
