Town holiday hours

Several town offices will closed this week in the days leading up to, and following Christmas Day on Friday, Dec. 25.

Town Hall will be closed on Thursday, Dec. 24, as well as Friday.

There will also be no trash and recycling pickup on Christmas, and pickup will be delayed one day for the remainder of the week.

The recycling enter will be closed on Saturday, Dec. 26. Starting Jan. 2, the Recycling Center drop-off hours are Saturdays, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., until April 1.

The North Smithfield Public Library will be closed from Thursday, Dec. 24 through Monday, Jan. 4.

Toys available

The North Smithfield Police Department has toys available for town families experiencing hardship this holiday season. Anyone who knows of someone in need is asked to contact Capt. Stephen Riccitelli at sriccitelli@nspolice.org or Tafida Allen at tallen@nspolice.org with the person’s contact information, as well as the number of children, their gender and age.

Art Committee

In addition to seeking members for several existing town boards, town officials will soon begin appointing members to a new committee.

The Town Council is expected to pass a resolution this week creating an Art Committee to oversee displays of resident artwork at Town Hall.

Those interested in serving are asked to contact Town Clerk Lillian Silva Scott at (401) 767-2200 ext. 326, and ask to be added to the list.

Appointments to the new committee are expected to be made throughout January.

Seniors services

Aging Well Inc., an organization serving northern Rhode Island seniors formerly known as Senior Services, Inc., is now offering cooking and exercise classes online while normal programing has been paused due to the ongoing pandemic.

Those who would like to join classes via Zoom are asked to call the organization at (401) 766-3734 and provide their email address, or contact them online via the form found here.

Past classes can also be found here.

Town meetings

The North Smithfield Town Council is the only board scheduled to meet this week, with a regular meeting scheduled for Monday, Dec. 21 starting at 6:45 p.m. The agenda and instructions to attend can be found here.
