E-waste drop off

The town will host an e-waste drop off at the garage at 281 Quaker Highway on Saturday, Dec. 19 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Items accepted at no charge include computers, laptops, monitors, routers, PDAs, cell phones, mice, keyboards, ink jet printers, toner cartridges, DVD/CD players, radios, televisions, network equipment, wires, stereos, plastic speakers, telephones, cameras, microwaves, small household appliances and acid lead batteries.

A $10 disposal fee will be charged for wooden stereo speakers, laser jet printers, air conditioners, dehumidifiers and other coolant containing devices.

Light bulbs, single use batteries, tapes/disks, glass, styrofoam, broken tv tubes and hazardous materials will not be accepted.

Attendees are asked to remain in their vehicles and wear face coverings while staff removes items.

New library Facebook, wifi

North Smithfield Public Library Library is now offering “park and surf” wifi thanks to a Take it Outside grant from the state. There is no password needed and users should log on to Library_ParkingLot.

The library also has a new Facebook page and can be followed here.

The facility is offering some virtual holiday fun for adults this month, with adult holiday bingo on Tuesday, Dec. 15 and holiday Jeopardy on Thursday, Dec. 17. Participants can register here.

Caroling fundraiser

The North Smithfield High School Music Department is hosting a COVID-19 safe caroling fundraiser on Sunday, Dec. 20, available to anyone in town. For a suggested donation of $30, the group will sing five Christmas carols.

Those who would like to schedule a time between 2 and 8 p.m. for the carolers to visit are asked to fill out the form here. 

The visits can also be purchased as a gift for others.

Route 104 bridge

The new Route 146 northbound bridge over Route 104 is scheduled to open, weather depending, and northbound traffic will be shifted onto the new bridge. The off ramp to Route 104 will be reopened.

There will be no impacts on southbound traffic. One lane on Route 146 northbound will be closed beginning at 7 p.m. and both lanes will be open on the new bridge by 5 a.m. There will also be no impacts to Route 104 traffic. Construction on the southbound bridge is scheduled to begin in the spring.

Town meetings

The North Smithfield Buildings Review Task Force will hold a meeting on Tuesday, Dec. 15 starting at 5:30 p.m. Residents can view the agenda and instructions to attend virtually here.
