Pumpkin winners

The organizers of the Pumpkin People of North Smithfield contest announced the winners on Halloween, Oct. 31, who will receive $100 prizes donated by Goodwin Brothers Farm. And thanks to the North Smithfield Heritage Association, three runners-up also won $50 cash prizes.

Winning best overall was the “Superheroes,” display posted by Tina Picard Almeida depicting characters from Marvel Avengers movies.

The “most creative,” display dubbed Delivered with Care came from Pam Jalette.

Winning the prize for funniest was the Tiger King display on Florence Street depicting characters from the 2020 Netflix series.

Organizers say they plan to make the contest an annual event.

Election Day

Tuesday, Nov. 3 is Election Day in Rhode Island and in North Smithfield, five polling locations will be open from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. Voters can view  sample ballot and find their polling location here. 

Early voting at 83 Greene St. ends at 4 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 2.

WWIS one week closure

Gov. Gina Raimondo has ordered ice rinks and sports facilities across the state to close for one week and starting today, Monday, Nov. 2, programs are suspended at Wide World of Indoor Sports.

With many adult leagues slated to start in November, owners of the Pound Hill Road business hope to see everyone next week.

Hydrant flushing

The North Smithfield Water Department will conduct hydrant flushing in the areas of Slatersville, Forestdale, Great Road, Mendon Road and Industrial Park on Monday, Nov. 2 through Friday, Nov. 6 from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. Flushing may cause temporary discoloration and/or a temporary reduction in water pressure. If water is discolored, residents should run the cold water until it clears.

Town meetings

The North Smithfield Town Council will hold a special meeting on Monday Nov. 2 starting at 6:45 p.m. The agenda and instructions to attend are here.
