Ballot deadline

North Smithfield voters hoping to cast a mail-in ballot for the 2020 primary can obtain an application online at https://vote.sos.ri.gov/Voter/VotebyMail?ActiveFlag=4 or by calling the town clerk’s office at (401) 767-2200.

The applications are due back to the town building at 83 Green St. by Tuesday Aug. 18, at 4 p.m.

Early or emergency voting will take place at the building between Wednesday, Aug. 19 and Tuesday, Sept. 8. Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Nature stories

North Smithfield Public Library will host a story with the Audubon Society of Rhode Island on Wednesday, Aug. 19 from 1 to 2 p.m.

Enjoy a story about pollinators, a craft and a chance to meet an Audubon ambassador. Guests are asked to register for the event by calling the library at (401) 767-2780. The event is part of the Greening North Smithfield Library Project.

Candidate Forum

Northern Rhode Island News On the Web’s 2020 Candidate Forum for Town Administrator will be held on Wednesday, Aug. 19 via Zoom starting at 7 p.m. The event will be stream live on the NRI NOW Facebook page and will remain there for viewing through the primary scheduled for Tuesday, Sept. 8.

Those who hope to submit potential questions for the candidates should send them to sandy@nrinow.news.

NRI NOW has tentatively scheduled a second forum for candidates for Town Council in October.

Weekend fun

Three bands will perform at The Island on Friday, Aug. 21: Sign of Trouble, Another Roadside Attraction and Big Boom Daddies with a free show starting at 7 p.m. The concert is hosted by Greyfox Productions.

On Saturday, Aug. 22, Radio Badland will perform at the venue on Saturday, Aug. 22 with a concert from 6:30 to 10 p.m.

Town meetings

The North Smithfield Town Council will hold their regular meeting on Monday, Aug. 17 starting at 6:45 p.m. The agenda and instructions to attend can be found here.

The North Smithfield School Committee will hold a meeting on Tuesday, Aug. 18 starting at 6:30 p.m. The agenda and instructions to attend are here.

The North Smithfield Sewer Commission will hold a virtual meeting on Wednesday, Aug. 19 starting at 7 p.m. An agenda and instructions to attend are here.
