Poll workers needed

The town of North Smithfield has an urgent need for poll workers for the upcoming Presidential Preference Primary scheduled for Tuesday, June 2 from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. Those interested are asked to contact Lillian Silva Scott at (401) 767-2200, Ext. 326 as soon as possible.

Another Gold extension

Property owner David Gold has once again extended the period in which local residents are invited to hike on his Mattity Road property.  The land  includes six miles of trails, and is well-marked with many scenic views.

A proposal for the property that would see a solar farm installed on a portion of the property, and the remainder gifted to the town, will be heard by the Planning Board this week. Follow the link below for instructions to attend via Zoom.

Gold has extended the invitation to visit the property through Sunday, May 31.

Town services move to Green Street

The vault at the North Smithfield town clerk’s office will be closed on Thursday and Friday, May 21 and 22, while officials pack and move services to their new location – a recently-renovated building at 83 Green St. Residents will not be able to obtain licenses, file recordings or perform title searches on those days.

The building, which once held Kendall Dean Elementary School, was renovated with bond financing in a project over the past several years. Offices at both the Memorial Town Building on Main Street and the town annex will be consolidated in the new space.

In his newsletter this week, Town Administrator Gary Ezovski warned that availability of town staff may also be limited on Tuesday, May 26, as officials get acquainted with the new digs.  The police and fire departments will not be affected by the move.

Those with questions or concerns are instructed to contact the Town Clerk’s Office at (401) 767-2200, Ext. 504.
