BURRILLVILLE – A Harrisville man driving an unregistered truck reportedly crashed the vehicle into a retaining wall on Iron Mine Road last week, flipping it onto its side before fleeing the scene on foot.

Kevin Fowler, 28, was charged with driving under the influence following the incident, and was also issued citations for operating a vehicle without insurance and with a canceled registration, leaving the lane of travel, and not immediately reporting the accident.

Police arriving at the scene in front of the reporting party’s home around 6 a.m. on Friday, Aug. 30 reportedly found a pickup truck toppled on its side with heavy front end damage, and the driver’s side bumper and front tire torn from the axle. Police spotted Fowler’s license sitting inside the vacant truck.

A witness told officers that the driver had fled on foot, and Fowler was found running on nearby West Ironstone Road.

According to reports, when police asked Fowler what happened, he responded that he didn’t remember and refused to answer questions. Officers state that he showed signs of alcohol consumption but refused to submit to some tests.

Fowler was released on a summons to appear in 6th District Court on Thursday, Sept. 26.
