Today is Monday, March 11, and here are five things you need to know:

Chicken dinner

The Burrillville Schools Alumni Education Foundation will host a buffet-style chicken dinner tonight at 6 p.m. at Uncle Ronnie’s Red Tavern. The organization’s mission is to enhance the education of Burrillville ‘s students through grants and scholarships. Tickets are $20 per person.

Pay for college

Wright’s Farm Restaurant has announced that applications are now open for the 4th annual George P. Ducharme Scholarship. For more information, and to apply visit: http://www.wrightsfarm.com/about/scholarship/.

Established in 2016 and named for lifetime Burrillville resident and former principal George P. Ducharme, the $5,000 scholarship is open to 2019 Burrillville High School graduating seniors who have been accepted to U.S.-based four-year College or University and will begin matriculating in the fall.

The selection criteria is based on demonstrated achievement and need; academic and personal recommendations; academic and personal achievements; school and community involvement; and additional factors as determined by the George P. Ducharme Scholarship Committee. Applications will be accepted through Friday, May 3.

One winner will be chosen by a review committee appointed by Wright’s Farm Restaurant. Award recipient will be selected based on the information provided through the application process and will be announced at the Burrillville High School Senior Award Night on Wednesday, June 5 at 6 p.m. The winning student will receive $5,000 to be paid directly to the accredited four-year college or university.

Ducharme, a 1948 graduate of Burrillville High School and awarded athlete, went on to become the high school’s vice principal and principal from 1966-1985. Today, Ducharme still substitutes as principal when duty calls within the Burrillville Town School District. He is a military veteran, mentor and has been a valued member of the community for the past 70 years.

Applications are also available for the 2019 Ocean State Power/TransCanada Scholarship.

Scholarship Applications are available at the Burrillville High School Guidance Office, the Treasurer’s Office located at Town Hall and online here.

Qualifications include:

1) Burrillville Town Resident (at least 1 year)

2) US Citizen

3) Graduating from an Accredited High School in 2019

Application deadline is April 18, 2019, no later than 6:00 p.m.

Celebrate Pi Day

Jesse Smith Memorial Library will host a Pi Day Pizza Party on Thursday, March 14 starting at 3 p.m. Celebrate Pi Day with a slice of pizza pie.

Shamrocks & Sparkle

The Burrillville Junior Hockey League will host a shopping event with raffles and giveaways by Touchstone Crystal on Thursday, March 14 at Waterfall Cafe at 35 East Ave., starting at 6 p.m.

Meeting this week

The Energy Facility Siting Board has released the dates for upcoming hearings in March and April, which resume this week. View the schedule here.

The Burrillville Recreation Commission will meet in the Jesse Smith Memorial Library Conference Room on Monday, March 11 starting at 6:30 p.m. for an agenda that can be found here.

The Burrillville Zoning Board will meet on Tuesday, March 12 at 7 p.m. at the town building at 105 Harrisville Main St. for an agenda that can be found here.

The Burrillville School Committee will hold their regular meeting on Tuesday, March 12 in the Burrillville High School media center starting at 6:30 p.m. for an agenda that can be found here.

The Pascoag Fire District will hold their monthly meeting on Wednesday, March 13 at 7 p.m. at 141 Howard Ave. Pascoag.

The Burrillville Town Council will hold their regular meeting on Wednesday, March 13 starting at 7 p.m. for an agenda that can be found here.

The Burrillville Budget Board will hold their regular meeting on Thursday, March 14 at the town building starting at 6:30 p.m. with an agenda found here.
