Learn to skate

The Burrillville Figure Skating Association is now accepting registration for the 2018-2019 Learn to Skate program held at the Levy Ice Rink on Sunday starting Sept. 16 from 11 to 11:50. Certified instructors teach both children and adults the basic maneuvers of ice skating. To learn more, follow BFSA on Facebook, email bfsa.board@gmail.com or text Angela at 401-369-2975.

The Statewide Primary will be held on Wednesday, Sept. 12. Polling locations in Burrillville will be as follows:

0301 Steere Farm Elementary School
0302 Beckwith Bruckshaw Memorial Lodge
0303 Burrillville High School
0304 W.L. Callahan Elementary School
0305 Burrillville Police Station
0306 Burrillville Middle School

All polling locations will be open from 7 a.m to 8 p.m.

There will also be no school for Burrillville students on Wednesday.

National Grid walk

Also on Wednesday, a group of approximately ten National Grid employees will be walking the B23 electric transmission right of way between National Grid’s Nasonville substation in Burrillville to National Grid’s West Farnum substation in North Smithfield. In Burrillville, they will be crossing over, Gig Road, Pulaski Road and Power Lane. All employees will have identification badges and hard hats on. The employees will park their cars at various street crossings of the right of way. View a map that illustrates the route and street crossings here.

Share your ideas

On Thursday, share your insights about growing older in Burrillville at a forum put on by Age Friendly Rhode Island to be held in the Jesse Smith Memorial Library Community Room, with coffee starting at 10:15 a.m. and the meeting at 10:30 a.m. NRI NOW spoke with the folks at AFRI about the reason for the event. Sell your stuff

A community yard sale will be held at First Universalist Church next weekend to raise money for preservation of building. The event will include a bake sale and organizers will rent space to those who have things to sell.

Inside, guests are invited to learn about Harrisville history and Austin T. Levy. The yard sale will be held on Saturday and Sunday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. To learn more, or rent space call Betty Mencucci at 568-8449 or 500-0433.
