Last chance to register

Today is the last day to register to vote in order to be eligible to vote in the September Primary. The Town Building was open for election business only from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m., but if you missed, you may still be able to register to vote online. Visit the Voter Information Center to check your voter registration, find your polling place and see who your elected officials are.

Trash delay

Trash pick up was delayed today for the state holiday of Victory Day. Pickup will resume on Tuesday, Aug. 14 and will be delayed one day for the remainder of the week. Questions can be directed to the Public Works Department at 568-4440 ext. 12.

Orlando Youth Circus

Pascoag Public Library will host the Orlando Youth Circus on Wednesday, Aug. 15 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., with acrobats, juggling and more. Learn more about new programming and leadership at the small community library here.

Star gazing

The Jesse Smith Memorial Library will finish up their summer programming with a free event using high powered telescopes on Friday, Aug. 17 from 8 to 9:30 p.m. Stop by any time during the event to celebrate the end of summer with Skyscrapers, Inc. from the RI Astronomical Society on the Riverwalk to view the night sky.  The Moon, Jupiter, Mars and Saturn and its rings are expected to be visible. Light refreshments will be served. No registration necessary. The rain date for the event is August 24.

Parade deadline extended

The 40th Autumnfest Parade will take place on Monday, Oct. 8, Columbus Day, in Woonsocket. The parade route is 2.5 miles departing Diamond Hill Plaza on Diamond Hill Road at 9:30 a.m. and ending on Worrall Street, near the Woonsocket Post Office.

Providing tremendous exposure for the participants, the entire 10 division parade is filmed and later broadcast on the public access channels via Cox Communication, which highlights information and accomplishments of the participants. The live parade audience exceeds 40,000.

There is still a significant need for bands, floats, and special entries. The absolute deadline for all forms is Sunday, Sept. 16.

This year’s float theme will be centered on the “40 years of Autumnfest Memories”. Float Judges will be awarding five trophies in the following categories: “Most Beautiful”, “Maple Leaf Award”, “Best in Parade”, “Most Creative” and the “Judges Award”. In the past years, large numbers of floats registered and competed for these prestigious awards.

Entry forms are accessible on the Autumnfest web site. For more float information, call Richard at (401) 527-8959.

The committee is also still looking for DJ’s or other mounted music providers to be in the parade. A completed Special Entry form is required. All entry forms are to be mailed to: Autumnfest Parade, P.O. Box 574, Woonsocket, RI 02895
