Hydrant flushing

The Harrisville Fire District Water Department and Pascoag Utility District Water Department will be flushing hydrants on Tuesday, May 15 through Friday, May 18.

Harrisville and Pascoag will be performing their flushing between the hours of 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. as part of the system’s annual maintenance. The flushing process may cause discoloration to the water for a short time. If so, water department officials advise that you run your water until it runs clear.

Visit the Chicks

The baby chickens have hatched at Jesse Smith Library and will be headed back to their home at Casey Farm in Saunderstown on Saturday, May 19. The 15 baby chickens arrived at the library as eggs last month.

The exhibit, located in the children’s room on the facility’s second floor, is part of Project CHICK, a program that aims to educate students about bird life cycles while helping to preserve the endangered Dominique chicken breed, raised at Casey Farm – one of the oldest farms in Rhode Island.

Watch the library’s fluffy young guests live online during the remaining week of their stay here.

Spring Concert

The Burrillville High School Spring Concert will take place Tuesday night from 6:30-8 p.m in the high school auditorium. Support the students and enjoy performances by the band and choir.

Champlin Room now open

Did you know you can scan items directly to your email, work on computer stations and print documents in a new room at the Jesse Smith Library? A new computer and printing area, dubbed the “Champlin Room” had recently been completed and includes an ADA compliant work station.

The area previously used for the library’s “teen hangout,” and was renovated with a grant from the Champlin Foundation.
