NORTH SMITHFIELD – A Massachusetts man was pronounced dead following an early morning crash at a lane split on Route 146 on Thursday, according to North Smithfield police.
David Campbell, 64, of Oxford, Mass., was pronounced dead on the scene.
The crash took place around 1:30 a.m. on on Thursday, Sept. 3, when Campbell accidentally went down a dirt road for construction workers, police said. His vehicle struck a ramp and went airborne, landing on Greenville Road below.
Police are still investigating the single-car incident, which left the vehicle driven by the victim on its side. Police were reportedly at the scene for several hours cleaning debris from the roadway.
“Our accident reconstruction team is still actively investigating,” said Capt. Stephen Riccitelli.
