Soccer clinic

The Burrillville Glocester Youth Soccer Association is offering a three-day clinic starting today, Monday, July 20 for co-ed age groups U11-U15. Training will be provided by Liverpool Academy at the BYGYSA complex from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. through Wednesday, July 22. The cost is $60 and participants can register here.

Arts festival cancelled

The Burrillville Arts Festival, a two-day event originally scheduled to take place Sept. 19 and 20 on the grounds of the Assembly Theatre, was cancelled this week due to ongoing restrictions from the Covid-19 pandemic. Organizers say they look forward to returning next year.

Parents’ meeting

The Burrillville School Department has scheduled a virtual meeting for parents on the reopening of schools in fall to be held next week on Monday, July 27 at 6 p.m. School officials are asking that parents submit their questions in advance via a Google form found here.

A link to attend the meeting will be posted on the school district’s Facebook page on the day of the event.

Heat wave

With low air quality and high temperatures at the start of this week, northern Rhode Islanders are advised to use caution and limit activities.

Burrillville residents who need to cool down are advised to call Lisa Rabideau at 568-4300 x 300. The police station court room will be made available if needed as cooling stations, but those in need of the facility must make contact in advance, as the space is not currently open to the general public.

Additionally, the Pascoag Utility District is asking customers to conserve as much energy as possible during the hours between 2 pm. and 8 p.m. as that is the time their feeder line from National Grid is expected to be at maximum capacity.

Customers are asked to raise the temperature setting on air conditioners, shut-off pool pumps or electric vehicle charging during these hours, and turn-off any other heavy load devices that are not absolutely necessary.

The company is currently working on a substation expansion project together with battery storage to alleviate the problem, but will not be fully implemented until next summer. Read more about the project here.

Town meetings

The Burrillville Planning Board will hold a site visit related to the pre-application for a solar project on Log Road on Monday, July 20 starting at 6 p.m. The agenda can be found here.

The Burrillville Town Council will hold a regular meeting via Zoom on Wednesday, July 22 starting at 7 p.m. The agenda and instructions to attend can be found here.
