Hip Hop Line Dancing

North Smithfield Public Library will host Hip Hop Line Dancing on Monday, Jan. 27 starting at 6:30 p.m. Learn the Wobble, the Cupid Shuffle and beginner line dances. Register for the adult program by calling or stopping by the library.

Connecting with your kids

North Smithfield Elementary School will host a free workshop for parents on Thursday, Jan. 30 starting at 6:30 p.m. on the importance of social emotional learning at home and in schools. Topics will include stages in child development and the role relationships play. Childcare will be provided.

Today, Monday,  Jan. 27, is the final day to register by emailing jdaigneault@nsps.us.

Heritage gala

The North Smithfield Heritage Association has announced the date of the 2020 Heritage Gala. The event, an opportunity to support NSHA’s community preservation activities, will be held at the Village Haven on Saturday, March 14 from 6 to 10 p.m., and will include dinner, cocktails, a penny social, a live auction and dancing.
Tickets cost $25 each and can be purchased at the Memorial Town Hall starting Feb 1 or by mailing a check payable to “NS Heritage Assn” to P.O. Box 413, Slatersville, RI.  Indicate the number of tickets you want and include a return address.  You may also purchase tickets by contacting NSHA by email at nsha@nsheritageassn.org.  The deadline for purchase is March 5.
The association is also seeking auction items for the event.

The Golden Apple

North Smithfield Elementary School teacher Michael Economos was recently named as a recipient of Channel 10’s Golden Apple Award.

Economos, who was nominated for the award by the Fleury family,  received the news during a visit to the school by anchor Patrice Wood.

Presentation of the award will be broadcast on Channel 10 on Thursday, Jan. 30 during the 6 p.m. news, and again during the Sunrise program on Friday morning.

Town meetings

The North Smithfield School Committee will hold their regular meeting on Tuesday, Jan. 28 starting at 6:30 p.m. at North Smithfield Middle School for an agenda found here.

The North Smithfield Conservation Commission will hold their regular meeting on Tuesday, Jan. 28 at 575 Smithfield Road starting at 7 p.m. for an agenda found here.

The North Smithfield Zoning Board will hold their regular meeting starting at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 28 at the Primrose Fire Station for an agenda found here.

The Municipal Buildings Review Task Force will hold a meeting on Wednesday, Jan. 29 at Memorial Town Hall starting at 5:30 p.m. for an agenda found here.
