BURRILLVILLE – The driver and front seat passenger involved in a crash on Victory Highway early Friday morning remain in critical condition according to police, who identified the individuals involved in the accident on Monday.

The vehicle, which was driven by a 20-year-old North Providence man, collided with a tree on the side of the busy highway around 6 a.m. on Friday, Oct. 25.

Burrillville officers were reportedly trying to stop the car at the time, which had been spotted traveling at 95-miles-per-hour, according to police.

The operator of the vehicle was identified as Dimitry Gentile, 20, of North Providence.

Gentile had to be pulled from the fiery crash, and was transported from the scene by Life Flight to UMASS Hospital in Worcester, Mass. following the accident. He is reported to be in critical, but stable condition.

The front seat passenger, Whelan Ziegelmayer, 18, of Smithfield, was also transported by Life Flight from the scene to Rhode Island Hospital, where he is in serious but stable condition, according to police.

The other, Luis Giovanni Bottela-Robshaw, 18, of Smithfield, was transported to Rhode Island Hospital by rescue, where he was treated and released.

According to a press release from the department on Monday, Oct. 28, the cause of the accident remains under investigation, but it appears that extreme speed was a factor.

The original version of this article erroneously stated that the accident took place on Route 146. We apologize for the error.
