BURRILLVILLE – Summer is here, and with it, a series of concerts that bring town residents together each weekend for some free entertainment.
On Saturday, July 6, classic rock band Whiskey Rhode will kick off the Riverwalk Times concert series at Stillwater Mill Pavilion with a show starting at 6 p.m.
The band is one of nine that will play at the venue this summer in free outdoor concerts put on by Jesse M. Smith Memorial Library.
The concerts are held in front of the library during July and August on Saturday nights. Music lovers bring blankets and chairs, and dancing is encouraged. Concerts move inside the library during inclement weather.
Library Director Beth Ullucci noted that many of the bands, including Whiskey Rhode, play the event every year due to popular demand.
Also returning in 2019 will be Brass Attack, the Live Music Band, the Aviators and the Jesse Liam Band, an event staple since 2013.
“Last year we added the Deloreans and the crowd loved them so much they are back for a second year,” said Ullucci.
But organizers also try to bring in at least two new bands annually.
In 2019, those newcomers will be the Kelley Lennon Band and Easy Street Bayou.
“Easy Street Bayou is comprised of several band members of the Slippery Sneakers,” said Ullucci.
The Navy Band Northeast Rhode Island Sound will close out the series.
“This high energy band is not to be missed,” said Ullucci.
The Riverwalk Times Concert Series was first held in 2008, and has drawn larger crowds every year since, according to the director, with some 4,000 visiting the pavilion last year.
Ullucci said the events have been successful because they make for “the perfect Saturday night.”
“Free amazing music enjoyed on the beautiful grounds in front of the library,” said Ullucci. “I will be at all 9 concerts.”
