Shelter renovations complete

Construction at the Burrillville Animal Control shelter on Clear River Drive are complete, and the facility is now in full operation. The town rebuilt the kennels and offices at the shelter to create more space for the animals with a $700,000 improvement project that took about one year.

The final touches – including paving and some outside decor – are planned for completion in the fall.

RIDEM public hearing

The Rhode Island Department of Environmental Management will hold an extended public hearing at the Burrillville High School auditorium on Wednesday, June 19 to gather public comment on the draft air quality permit for the proposed Clear River Energy Center.

The hearing will be held in two sessions, from 3 to 5 p.m., and 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. Those interested can appear and submit written or oral comments.

EFSB begins deliberations

The Energy Facility Siting Board will begin deliberations on the proposed power plant this week beginning on on Thursday, June 20, at 10:00 a.m. in Hearing Room A of the Public Utilities Commission Offices at 89 Jefferson Boulevard in Warwick.

the Board will not be accepting oral public comments. The public can watch at the following web address: www.ustream.tv/channel/WqQyXw296dg.  Additional meeting are scheduled for Friday, June 21 at 1 p.m. and Tuesday, June 25 at 10 a.m.

Safe Sitter class

The Burrillville Parks & Recreation Department will sponsor The Safe Sitter Program hosted by the Hasbro Children’s Hospital on Thursday, June 20 at Burrillville Middle School from 8 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.

The one day program serves as valuable training for boys and girls who are currently working as sitters and those who may do so in the future.  Lifesaving instruction on preventing and managing injuries, infant child CPR, caring for a choking infant or child, and rescue breathing is combined with helpful tips on managing difficult behavior and other problems faced by sitters or siblings.

The program is $50 and is open to young adolescents ages 11-14.  This fee includes the Safe Sitter Manual.  As space is limited, pre-registration is required and is offered on a first come, first serve basis.  For more information or to pre-register contact Robin Zaman 401-444-8009.

Town meetings

The Burrillville Town Council voted last week to cancel two of the meetings scheduled for the summer and will meet only once a month in July and August. The council will not meet on July 10 or August 14.

The Pascoag Fire District will hold their monthly meeting on Wednesday, June 19 for an agenda that can be found here.
