BEC Summer Camp registration opens

Registration is now open for Burrillville Extended Care Summer Camp for students in 1st through 7th grades. The program runs from Tuesday, June 18 through Wednesday, Aug. 28 and will include arts, cooking, sports, science, swimming and other outdoor activities. The cost is $35 per day, space is limited, and registration is accepted on a first come, first serve basis.

Norman is That You?

The Theatre Company of RI will present Samuel French’s Comedy “Norman Is That You?” at the Assembly Theatre this weekend and next, a funny play about love and human behavior. Catch the show on Friday, April 5 or Saturday, April 6 at 7 p.m.; or Sunday, April 7 at 2 p.m. Tickets cost $15 and will be available at the door.

Find the golden eggs

The Burrillville Parks & Recreation Department will host the town’s annual Easter Egg Hunt on Saturday, April 6 at Branch River Park by Burrillville Middle School starting at 11 a.m. for children eight and younger.

Look for one of 25 golden eggs for a special surprise, to be redeemed at Jesse Smith Memorial Library. Children participating need to bring a bag or basket to collect eggs. The Easter Bunny will visit with youngsters, and raffle tickets will be available for $1 each to win one of the many Easter baskets. There will also be cupcake decorating and face painting. 

All proceeds from the Easter Basket raffle will benefit the Burrillville Weekend Snack Pack Program for children in need.

The rain date for the event is Saturday, April 13.

An educational “tour”of dementia

Bayberry Commons and Kindred Commons will host a virtual dementia tour on Saturday, April 6 from Second Wind Dreams, a hands on experience for caregivers, families and others to experience what it’s like to have dementia or Alzheimer’s disease. No registration is needed for the event at Jesse Smith Memorial Library starting at 11 a.m., and guests will be escorted by a trained guide.

Opening Day for Sporting Clays

Sunday, April 7 is Opening Day for Sporting Clays at the Wallum Lake Rod & Gun Club starting at 10 a.m.

Located on ten forested acres, the WLRG Sporting Clays Course is considered by some to be a top shooting sports destination in New England.

Non-Members and beginners are welcome to the event, which costs $15 (or $12 for members) for a 50-round course. The last group is expected to go out around 1:30 p.m.

Earth Day Poster contest

Burrillville children in grades K through 6 are invited to design a poster using original artwork to help teach the community about energy conservation and/or recycling, for the chance to win cash and be featured in environmental education.

Twelve posters will be chosen for prizes from $20-$50, and the winners will be recognized at an awards ceremony on Wednesday, May 8.  View more contest guidelines below.
