BURRILLVILLE – A farm in Pascoag is caring for three horses allegedly abandoned by a woman from Attleboro, Mass., a misdemeanor crime that’s led to a warrant for her arrest.

According to reports, Eva Berndt of Attleboro left the animals at J & S Family Ranch in August. She is now wanted for abandonment of animals, and the cost for her pets’ care has climbed to around $5,000.

The Rhode Island Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals has reportedly stated that Berndt started boarding the horses at the Town Farm Road ranch, and then stopped showing up.

The farm plans to keep one of the horses, but the other two have been transferred to another facility in Fairfield, Conn.

Berndt reportedly told Eyewitness News that she rescued the horses from North Carolina and expected to receive donations from southern rescue organization, but never got the money. She says she paid the farm $350 in cash and visited the horses occasionally through December.

The 27-acre farm offers lessons and boarding, and hosts an indoor and outdoor arena, a separate hunter/jumper arena, and round pen, all with clay-sand footing
