BURRILLVILLE – A team of assessors from the Rhode Island Police Accreditation Commission will arrive at the Burrillville Police Department later this month, and members of the public will have the chance to submit commentary regarding the department’s ability to meet the agency’s professional standards.

RIPAC officials will examine all aspects of the agency’s policies and procedures, management, operations, and support services during a visit on Wednesday, Feb. 20.

A release from the department this week notes that verification by the assessment team that the department meets the commission’s standards is part of a voluntary process by which the agency seeks recognition of professional excellence in law enforcement.

As part of the on site assessment, agency employees and members of the community are invited to offer comments to the assessment team by telephone. The public is invited to contact the team at 401-710-9647 that day – Feb. 20 – between 1 p.m. and 2 p.m. Telephone comments are limited to 10 minutes and must address the agency’s ability to meet RIPAC standards.

A copy of RIPAC standards are available for review at the police department at 1477 Victory Highway, Oakland. Questions concerning compliance with any of the standards may be directed to Lt. Jason Eddy at 401-568-6255.

To submit written comments about BPD’s ability to meet the standards for accreditation, send them to RIPAC Executive Director Christine Crocker at P.O. Box 7877, Cumberland, RI 02864 or email crocker.riapc@cox.net.

Accreditation is for three years, during which time the agency must submit annual reports attesting continued compliance with applicable standards.
