BURRILLVILLE – A Burrillville man was arrested this week after allegedly hitting another vehicle on East Avenue and driving off while well beyond the legal blood alcohol limit.

Deschamps, 55, of Spring Lake Road was charged with DUI, first offense and failure in duty to stop.

According to the victim, a 50-year-old Harrisville man, Deschamps took a wide right turn onto East Avenue from Broncos Highway in his 1991 Buick, striking the front driver’s side of a 2016 Kia. Deschamps reportedly drove off and the victim followed him home, on a route that went directly by the Burrillville Police station.

Deschamps initially told police that he had not consumed any alcohol, but later admitted to drinking half a pint of ginger brandy. He registered a .19 and .18 blood alcohol content on breathalyzer tests.

In a separate DUI incident this week, a 23-year-old Woonsocket man impersonated his brother to police and was later found to be under the influence of multiple substances.

Zachary Bittner of Blakeley Street Woonsocket was charged with possession of narcotics, DUI – first offense, obstructing an officer, and driving with a suspended license following the incident.

According to reports, Bittner was driving a 2001 black Honda Civic with one headlight out. Inside the vehicle, police found open cans of Budweiser and Strawberita and noted that his speech was mumbled and slurred.

The driver reportedly told police his name was Richard Bittner but could not produce a license or registration. Police also found two loose pills, identified as Clonazepam, in the car and Bittner told police he had smoked marijuana earlier. At the station, officers reportedly “found a white powdery substance lodged within his nasal cavity.”

Bittner blew a .08 and .07 on breathalyzer tests, but after follow-up tests police concluded he was under the influence of multiple substances.
