A historic meeting of leaders
In what is being billed as a historic occasion, Burrillville Town Manager Michael Wood and North Smithfield Town Administrator Gary Ezovski, will deliver respective ‘state-of-the-town’ addresses to the Lions Club serving both towns on Wednesday, Jan. 16 at 6:30 p.m. at Uncle Ronnie’s Red Tavern Function Room in Nasonville. The municipal leaders will provide updates as to current and planned happenings in an informal setting followed by a ‘Q&A’ session for attendees.
The event is free of charge and open to all Lions, families, friends, prospective members, business leaders, and town residents. Members of the general public are also invited to attend. Refreshments and a light supper will be served. For further information, call 568-4141 or 338-6334.

At the libraries
The Jesse Smith Memorial Library will hold a meeting of its grades 3-5 book club on Thursday, Jan. 17 to discuss the Rhode Island Children’s Book Award nominee “The Losers Club,” by Andrew Clements. The club meets once a month to discuss a book and enjoy snacks and activities related to the reading. Next month, they’ll take on RICBA nominee “Mustaches for Maddie,” by Chad Morris and Shelly Brown. Registration is required.
The library has also announced the winner of its holiday decorating contest, declaring that the circulation desk’s Charlie Brown display beat out the competition.
At Pascoag Public Library, story time resumes on Jan. 17, to be held every Thursday for children ages 2-6 from 11 to noon through May 23. Register here.
Town board meetings
The Burrillville Recreation Commission will meet on Monday, Jan. 14 at 6:30 p.m. at Jesse Smith Memorial Library. The agenda can be found here.

The Burrillville High School chapter of Special Olympics will receive national recognition for the school’s unified sports program this spring and is seeking sponsors to help with t-shirt costs for an event honoring the program, which will take place in March.
