Parks and Recreation releases January calendar

The Burrillville Parks and Recreation Department has released its calendar of events for January with programming that includes drop in fitness classes and music lessons.

A ‘thank you’ award

American Legion Post 88 presented an awarded to members of the Smithfield Home Depot team for their work on Ray Fontenault’s house in November. The group provided the World War II veteran with new flooring, appliances, siding, a storm door and a handicap ramp for his home on Joslin Road. Read more about their work here.

Town employee fitness in the New Year

Tobin Style Boot Camp is offering two free classes a week for the month of January to all town of Burrillville employees including those in school administration, teachers, municipal and library workers and members of the Burrillville Police Department.

Concert series seeks help

Members of the Burrillville Land Trust are seeking help in planning their next Music at the Farm series, a concert program held for the first time in 2018 at Grace Note Farm. The Land Trust co-sponsored the events, which took place the second Sunday of every month from May through December at an 18th century family farm homestead that was the first conservation land in the town of Burrillville.

Happy anniversary

The Burrillville Addiction Assistance Program marked its one year anniversary this week of assisting residents in Burrillville that need help with substance abuse and addiction, as well as their families. This year the organization secured treatment for 21 individuals –including two on a scholarship basis; secured medicated assisted treatment for 10 residents; had more than 500 in person or telephone conversations with clients, families and friends of those affected; had face to face meetings with 83 residents of the town of Burrillville looking to secure support and/or treatment; and started three weekly support groups for those affected by substance use disorder – All Recovery Meeting, Women’s Meeting and Family Support.

Back to business

The holidays are over and town officials will get back to business next week with meetings throughout the week.

The Planning Board will hold their regular meeting on Monday, Jan. 7 at Jesse Smith Library with an agenda that can be found here.

The Burrillville Prevention Action Coalition will gather on Tuesday, Jan. 8 at the Public Safety Complex at 1477 Victory Highway at 5 p.m.

The Zoning Board will also gather at the town building at 105 Harrisville Main St. on Tuesday at 7 p.m. The agenda for this meeting can be found here.

The Town Council will hold their regular meeting on Wednesday, Jan. 9 at the Town Building for an agenda that can be found here.

Author series

The Pascoag Public Library will host Tom Kiernan, author of The Mad Dash, on Monday, Jan. 7 as part of an ongoing author series beginning at 4 p.m.
