Job opportunity
The Jesse Smith Memorial Library is seeking a part time children’s librarian. The position provides collection development, programming and reference assistance services in a busy children’s department. Responsibilities include answering patron reference questions, providing reader’s advisory and digital literacy services to the public, and assisting in the development of children’s programming.
The 19-hour per week position comes with no benefits, and some nights and weekends are required.
Minimum qualifications include a master’s degree in library science from an institution accredited by the American Library Association. Candidates close to obtaining a degree may be considered. Prior professional library experience preferred and the ideal candidate must have exemplary customer service and organizational skills as well as excellent technology skills, especially expertise in social media.
The salary is $20 to $23 per hour, depending on qualifications. Christmas display winner
Congratulations to Julia O’Rourke, the winner of our holiday decorations contest. O’Rourke’s festive display at 1065 Wallum Lake Road was nominated by several readers, and she has won a $70 gift certificate to the Waterfall Cafe, which will be sent in the mail.

Trash delayed
There will be no trash or recycling pickup in Burrillville on Tuesday, Jan. 1. due to the New Year’s holiday. Pickup will be delayed one day for the remainder of the week. Any questions can be directed to the Department of Public Works at 401-568-4440 ext. 12.
