BURRILLVILLE – Two new signs on East Avenue were installed by the state Department of Transportation last week aimed at making drivers aware of an autistic child who lives by the center of Harrisville.

“A lot of people use that road to get in and out of town,” said Harrisville Fire Chief Michael Gingell. “The family was concerned that the motorists know, and asked for extra attention when they travel through.”

The signs, which were installed on both sides of the road between the waterfall and Stewart Court, were secured with assistance from former Rep. Cale Keable’s office. The busy state road carries drivers out to Route 102 and points beyond.

Gingell hopes that drivers see the warnings and use extra caution.

“You drive there every day and you may not notice them,” Gingell said. “It’s awareness.”

The signs were installed at no cost to the family or the town.
