The Bucky Balloon Showcase Attraction talked to thousands of kids, teens and adults about traffic safety and injury prevention at last year’s Comic Con.

Burrillville represented at Comic Con

Rhode Island Comic Con takes place at the Dunkin Donuts Center in Providence this weekend and Burrillville’s own Jim Weicherding will serve as a guest cartoonist and artist at the event.

Weicherding’s Buckleupallofus Giant Balloon is the star showcase attraction at the RI KIDS CON Rotunda Room. Last year, Weicherding says he passed out more than 10,000 Bucky, Fearless Dino Protector Squad & Itty Bitty Super Dupers “Be a Buddy, Not a Bully” coloring books, posters, stickers, fridge magnets and book markers to kids and parents over the three day event. More than 100,000 people saw his Bucky Balloon Showcase.

Parking ban in effect

The Burrillville Police Department reminds residents that the town of Burrillville has an overnight parking ban from Nov. 1 to March 1. No vehicle can park on any street between the hours of 1 a.m. and 6 a.m. Officers began handing out reminder warnings this week to anyone who was parked on the street.

Gas station open

The Sunoco on Chapel Street is fully open for business after being closed for nearly a year. The new and improved gas station includes four pumps and the North Country Store, selling coffee and other essentials. The store and the pumps are now open seven days a week from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m.

Library Craft and Vendor Fair

The Friends of Jesse Smith Memorial Library will hold their annual craft and vendor fair on Saturday, Nov. 3 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. with raffles and unique gifts for the holiday season. Admission to the event, which takes place at the Tinkham Lane library, is free.

Visit The Moving Wall

The Moving Wall Remembrance at Ponagansett High School is open and holding ceremonies on Saturday and Sunday, Nov. 3 and 4. The wall is the half-size replica of the Washington, DC Vietnam Veterans Memorial, and has been touring the country for thirty plus years.

It is free to visit the wall, and it will be open to the public 24 hours a day through Monday, Nov. 5.

Ceremonies Saturday start at 10 a.m. and include Patriotic performances and speakers through 6:30 p.m. “The Flames of Freedom” bonfire will be lit each night at 6:30 PM following Taps. It serves dramatic and ethereal epitaph to the 57,939 souls inscribed on the Moving Wall as a testament to their service, sacrifice and contributions to this nation.

On Sunday, The United States of America Vietnam War Commemoration Recognition begins at 9 a.m. and festivities last through the early evening.
