Buy a couch

American Legion Post 88 will hold a furniture sale on Saturday, Aug. 18 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at their headquarters at 111 Chapel St. in Harrisville. The sale will include new furniture available for cash and carry.

A ‘thank you’

Ben’s Lemonade Stand, an annual event put on by a 12-year-old from Mapleville has raised $3,145 for the Burrillville Animal Shelter, and the family says checks are still coming in. Ben thanked supporters on his Facebook page this week.

Catch the latest performance in the Riverwalk Times Concert Series on Saturday from 6 to 7:30 p.m. The DeLoreans is a group of five musicians playing popular music from 50s to modern dance and rock.

Catch locals in a TV show

On Saturday night, the Assembly Theatre will show Almost Anything Goes, a comical TV show episode from the 1970’s that features a team of Burrillville residents competing for money and prizes in bizarre obstacle courses, pie throwing contests, swing relays, and other wacky contests. The show starts at 8:15 p.m. and the donation for the event is $5.

Enter a pageant

Your child or grandchild could be crowned “Little Miss Autumnfest” this year. The Little Miss Autumnfest Pageant will be held Saturday, Oct. 6 at 11 a.m. on the Kids Fest Stage during Autumnfest. There are 3 age categories: Baby Miss Autumnfest – 0-23 months, Tiny Miss Autumnfest – 2-3 years old and Little Miss Autumnfest – 4-8 years old.

Baby Miss Autumnfest and Tiny Miss Autumnfest participants will walk with their parents across the stage in fall-themed costume or formal wear. Little Miss Autumnfest participants will walk across the stage by themselves. The top winner of Baby Miss Autumnfest and Tiny Miss Autumnfest will be awarded a sash and trophy. Little Miss Autumnfest winner will receive a beautiful crown, sash, and a professional photo shoot. Plus, Little Miss Autumnfest and her court will ride on an Autumnfest float in the Autumnfest Parade.

Each contestant will submit an application with an entry fee of $10 and a jpeg photo emailed to littlemissautumnfest.org. Each contestant will be given 50 tickets to sell at $1 each. Tickets can be picked up at WOON Radio, 985 Park Ave. Woonsocket.

The contestants in the Baby Miss Autumnfest and Tiny Miss Autumnfest who sells the most tickets will be the winner in their division.

The Top 10 ticket sellers of the Little Miss Autumnfest category will compete in the category of costume and formal wear with a Celebrity Panel of Judges.

There will be a Winner for Little Miss Autumnfest crowned on stage, along with a First Runner Up and Second Runner Up. The remaining contestants will receive a crown hair comb.
