Town meetings

The Burrillville Planning Board will hold their regular meeting tonight, Monday, Aug. 6, at the Jesse Smith Library Community Room, starting at 7 p.m. The agenda, found in part here, will include discussion with the Town Council about proposed revisions to the Burrillville Comprehensive Plan.

The Burrillville Prevention Action Coalition will hold their monthly meeting on Wednesday, Aug. 8 at Wallace F. Lees Public Safety Complex from 5 to 6 p.m.

The Burrillville Town Council will also hold their regular meeting on Wednesday, Aug. 9 at at the Burrillville Town Building, 105 Harrisville Main St., Harrisville, starting at 7 p.m. The agenda can be found here.

Free yoga/Snack Pack fundraiser

Sunflower Kids Yoga and Touch of Light Wellness Center will host a free outdoor yoga class for kids of all ages on Friday, Aug. 10 from 10 to 11 a.m. at the Stillwater Pavilion.

Participants will breathe, sing, dance and play some fun yoga games together, and end with a trip to the “secret garden.” The instructors will be collecting both monetary donations and non-perishable food items for the town’s Weekend Snack Pack program. RSVP for the class here.

Volunteers with the Blackstone Heritage Corridor will lead a free tour along the Blackstone River Bikeway this Wednesday.

Bike the Blackstone

The Blackstone River Valley National Heritage Corridor is hosting a “Ride of Discovery” this week, a free tour exploring the historical and natural resources found along the Blackstone River bikeway.

On Wednesday, Aug. 8, bikers will explore the Woonasquatucket River Greenway in Providence, meeting at 6:30 p.m. at Riverside Park at 50 Aleppo St. for a 5 mile round trip.

The following week, on Wednesday, Aug. 15, bikers will explore the Blackstone River Bikeway between Manville and Ashton traveling to the Capt. Wilbur Kelly House and Transportation Museum, meeting at the bikeway parking lot at 100 New River Road in Manville.

Helmets are required for all rides and rides are weather dependent. Check BHC’s website and Facebook page for updates. For full details on each ride, visit BHC’s events calendar.

A busy week at Jesse Smith

The Jesse Smith Memorial Library will host several events this week, starting tonight at 6:30 p.m. with a class on “Rockhounding.” Participants will learn how to find and collect minerals in the local area with Louis Fazzina of Apple Valley Mineral Shop.

On Tuesday, Aug. 7 from 4-7:30 p.m. the library will host “Escape Room: Musical Mystery.” In this fictional scenario, your band is auditioning for Harrisville Idol and you must make it to the audition in 30 minutes. The previous contestant sabotaged the doors and you’re locked in. Can you solve the riddles and make it to the judges in time?

Space is limited at the event, which is best for ages 11 and up.

On Wednesday, Aug. 8, visit the library for Tick Smart Living starting at 6:30 p.m. Participants will learn 10 things everyone needs to know about ticks including personal protection and tick bite management strategies. The class will be presented by: Steven Engborg, URI Tick Encounter.

 Registration for the events is required with the library’s Reference Department.
