The Independence Day fun continues this week with fireworks displays at Bryant University in Smithfield tonight, Monday, July 2, at 9 p.m. and tomorrow, Tuesday, July 3, at Tucker Field in Cumberland and Barry Field in Woonsocket, both at 9 p.m.

On Wednesday, July 4 head to Glocester for the 92nd annual Ancients and Horribles Parade.

Members of the No New Power Plant group in Burrillville aim to flood the parade route with their message. Anyone who would like to hold a sign can contact Julia O’Rourke at 401-497-7984.

Register for school

Registrations for the 2018/2019 school year open this week and will continue through August 23. All summer registrations will be processed at the Burrillville School Department’s Central Administration Building at 2300 Bronco Highway, adjacent to the Middle School. Families may register their children by appointment on Tuesdays , Wednesdays and Thursdays between the hours of 9-11 a.m.

Catch a game, help a cause

The 2nd Annual Autumnfest Night at McCoy Stadium will be Thursday, Aug. 30. The Pawtucket Red Sox will host the Lehigh Valley IronPigs in a 7:05 p.m. game. Autumnfest is participating in this initiative created by the Pawtucket Red Sox called “Paws for a Cause.”

Autumnfest Night with the PawSox is a fundraiser. For every $10 General Admission ticket price purchased, Autumnfest will receive $5. The only way Autumnfest receives money is by purchasing tickets online. Go to the Autumnfest website at http://www.autumnfest.org and from the home page, scroll down to “Autumnfest Night at McCoy Stadium” and click on the link to secure tickets.

New chief

The Harrisville Fire District now has a new chief. Longtime Deputy Chief Michael Gingell was recently sworn in to replace outgoing Chief Mark St. Pierre. Gingell has been a member of the department for more than 40 years.

Fast pitch

Fast Pitch softball is returning to Burrillville, and according to proponents the new league will allow local girls to learn the game at a higher level.

ASA Softball of Northern Rhode Island has a program beginning in September, with a full spring/summer league starting in 2019.  To register email nrisoftball@gmail.com
