Summer concerts, fireworks light up the region: Celebrate independence in and around Burrillville

It’s the weekend before July 4, and if you’d like to spend nearly every moment watching free live music and fireworks displays, you’re in luck. Here’s a quick roundup of celebrations in the Blackstone Valley starting tonight.

Levitt AMP Woonsocket

Head to River Island Art Park in downtown Woonsocket tonight for the first of ten free concerts for the Levitt AMP Woonsocket Music Series. Concerts will continue every Friday from June 29-August 31.

The Levitt AMP Woonsocket Music Series will include live original music, an “On the Move” fitness opportunity presented by Blue Cross Blue Shield of RI, artesian vendors, sponsor booths, and food from local businesses.

Tonight’s entertainment schedule is as follows:
5 p.m. PreOpener – Marching Milkman Band
6 p.m. Opener – Julie Rhodes
6:30 p.m. BCBSRI On the Move – Hip Hop w/ Contre Fitness
7 p.m. Headliner – Low Down Brass Band

Live music, fireworks kick off Ancients and Horribles

Neighboring Glocester’s 92nd annual Ancients and Horribles parade kicks off this weekend with a full day of live music Saturday, June 30 followed by a fireworks display starting at 9 p.m.

The fun begins at noon when the Screwtop Sommeliers take the stage at Gloucester Memorial Park at 52 Adelaide Road, just behind the Senior Cent er. Johnny Cash tribute band Counterfeit Cash follows at 1 p.m. and Johnny Edwards Wild Combo comes on at 2:30 p.m.

At 4 p.m., guests to the venue will hear music from country indie rock band Bunktow followed by Sublime cover band Second Hand Smoke. At 6:30 p.m. it’s Jesse and the Hog Brothers and at 8 p.m. Ways and Means.

The festivities continue on July 4 with a road race at 9 a.m. and the historic parade starting at 4 p.m.

Riverwalk Concerts begin

Also on Saturday, the Duke Robillard Band will start off a summer of concerts at the Stillwater Mill Pavilion with a show beginning at 6 p.m. Bring your dancing shoes, chairs and blankets for the chance to catch this blues legend right in Burrillville.

More fireworks

Glocester isn’t the only town in the Blackstone Valley with plans to light up the night to celebrate the nation’s independence.

Smithfield will have a display of fireworks at Bryant University on July 2 at 9 p.m. The rain date is July 9 at 9 p.m.

The town of Cumberland will host an entertainment and food truck rally at Tucker Field on Monday, July 3, starting at 5 p.m. with fireworks starting around 9 p.m.

Woonsocket’s annual Independence Day concert and fireworks celebration is set for Tuesday, July 3, at Barry Memorial Field. Festivities kick-off with a musical performance by local favorites Jeff Gamache and Runaway Train. The time is to be announced, the City said, but will be either 6:30 p.m. or 7 p.m. The fireworks display follows the concert. It’s expected to start at approximately 9 p.m.
