BURRILLVILLE – A dispute over how another patron parked their car at the Pascoag Cafe on  Sunday, May 20 led to the arrest of two brothers.

Nicholas Martel, 28, of 223 Winter St., was charged with resisting arrest and disorderly conduct following the incident.

His younger brother, Jeffrey Martel, 26, of 75 Spring St., was charged with disorderly conduct and obstructing an officer in the execution of duty.

According to Major Dennis Leahey, police were called to the establishment around 9 p.m. for a disturbance and found a number of people in the parking lot, including the brothers, who they say were “highly intoxicated.”

Leahey said the incident appeared to have started as a result of a third party that was there having parked a car in such a way that it blocked the Martels’ car in.

“They were both given the opportunity to leave the area and they were reluctant to do so,” he said.

Leahey said officers finally persuaded the men to walk away, but both began yelling.

“They were screaming obscenities,” he said.

When police went to arrest Nicholas, they say Jeffrey jumped in to try to stop them.

Both men were held overnight to await transport to 6th District Court for arraignment.
